Soundscape

LOATHING

  1. This soundscape was excellent. The sound of fire represents symbolically the fire of loathing burning inside. The dark sounds and images manipulate time and space to convey the emotion as a burning hatred that is bent on destruction. I especially liked the industrial type sound of metal bending, as it leads me into the darkness through Gestalt principles.

  2. I felt that this soundscape did a good job of representing loathing. My emotion was also loathing and I feel that we had some similarities in our soundscapes. Your use of the slow footsteps and constant eerie back ground sound made me feel as if time had stopped and there was no way to rid myself of the loathing. It didn't seem to progress, which is good because when one is feeling loathsome, it is hard to forget and move on. One of the Gestalt principles which was used here was Figure and Ground. The focus was on the footsteps which were continuous while there were eerie sounds in the back that added to the slow walking which created a sense of loathing.

  3. Personally I think it's ridiculous to try to write 200 meaningful words about two minute video but here it goes: I think loathing was well represented in this soundscape, especially through the sounds of the crackling fire, which to me represents the all-consuming fire of hatred, I also liked the added fire effects on the invisible guy's hat and the tree, this gave the illusion that the man and the tree are actually burning because you cand see and hear it happening. The burning also adds to the sense of loathing through it's destructive quality, It gives the sense of hating something so much that you are burning it to the ground. Also that grinding, kina static sound that comes in about 1:15 helped add to the emotion. The soundscape manipulated space through the sounds of the footsteps that seemed to approach and retreat based on how loud or quiet they got. Also the first picture really added to the soundscape because of how creepy it was, the angry looking guy with no eyes looked like he loathes everything which is definitely a good addition to the soundscape and it's a little creepy how you hear the footsteps begin and speed up when it shows him, makes me feel like he's coming after me

  4. This is a very well done sound scape. The footsteps and the other sounds in the beginning do a good job introducing the tension of the song and go with the picture very well. What really helps the conveying of the emotion though is when the fire comes in symbolizing the anger and loathing, which also works well with the picture as there is fire in the picture itself as well. The thumping of the bass drum while the fire is burning does really well to convey a sense of hatred. The metallic sounds that begin shortly thereafter help add the piece and make me picture destruction and bending or twisting of machines creating a very good sense of the emotion of loathing.

  5. This is a very well done sound-scape in my opinion. This is a good representation of loathing with the picture and the sound combination. The pictures are eerie and dark and the sounds are tense and on edge. The footsteps add sort of an unsettling feeling and add to the feeling of keeping you on edge. The footsteps in the begging really manipulate the space very well. It gives it a wide space and seems as if someone is walking from left to right. Also the manipulation of time is used by starting the sound-scape with a slow rhythm and beat speeding it up and then dropping it back down. The pictures went very well with the sounds like the hat on fire and the noise of a hot crackling fire in the background. Also the bass drum thumping was a good choice because it added to the suspense and eeriness. I like the use of only a few pictures for this emotion. Having the slow moving long lasting pictures really lets the audience take in the pictures and soak them in. This adds to the negative feeling the sound-scape conveys. Overall this sound-scape is very good at conveying a negative emotion of loathing and hate.
